Research Network on Genital Modifications (GM)

The Research Network on Genital Modifications brings together researchers, NGOs, and policymakers working on female genital modifications from different disciplines. It currently involves researchers from VUB, ULB, UA, Ghent University, and KU Leuven, as well as GAMS (the Belgian NGO working to end female genital mutilation/cutting) and Pharos (the Dutch national centre of expertise on health disparities).

The network was initiated by Dr. Hannelore Van Bavel, Dr. Nina Van Eekert, and Prof. Dr. Sarah O’Neill. It holds regular meetings where participants present research, provide feedback, discuss research gaps, and identify opportunities for collaboration. The network is also working on organising a conference on genital modifications.

Are you a researcher, NGO representative, policymaker, or someone else interested in genital modifications and looking to join the network? Contact Dr. Van Bavel at hannelore.van.bavel@vub.be to receive information about our next meeting.
